Weekend track work on the Metrorail system could cause diversions and some delays for subway riders on the Blue Line starting tonight and the Red Line starting tomorrow.
Three Blue Line stations -- Benning Road, Capitol Heights and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant -- will close today at 8 p.m.
Blue Line service toward Addison Road will end at the Stadium-Armory station and service from the Stadium-Armory station will run only in the direction of Franconia-Springfield.
The closures will continue until Metrorail opens for Monday morning's commute at 5 a.m.
Until then, Metro will provide shuttle bus service every five minutes between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant stations with stops at the other closed stations in between.
On the Red Line, Metro warned riders to expect 10- to 15-minute delays all day Saturday and Sunday as maintenance work along the route forces trains to share a single track between the Rhode Island Avenue and Judiciary Square stations.
The Red Line maintenance is connected to work on the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U station, which is scheduled to open Nov. 20.
The track work on the Blue Line, which will install a new automatic train control system, is connected to a three-mile extension on that route from Addison Road to Largo. Two new stations, Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center, are scheduled to open on Dec. 18.
