At four o'clock on the afternoon of July 30, Cynthia Elizabeth Read and James Allison Lofton were married in the garden at the home of her parents, Col. (USA ret.) and Mrs. Beverly Money Read in Lexington, Va., where a reception followed. The double ring ceremony was performed by Chap. Fred O. Hunt Jr., Col. USA ret., and the Rev. Jeremy Q. Galloway.

The lovely bride, daughter also of the late Jane Gibson Read, was given in marriage by her father and attended by Jane Hunter as maid of honor. Her step-sister, Brooke Perry was bridesmaid along with Catherine Shaner, Sydney Pemberton, and Mrs. Michael Wyatt; her niece, Miss Julie Read was flower girl and Master Kirk Read, the bride's brother, was ring bearer.

The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Lofton of Opelika, Ala., was served by his brother, Richard Lofton, as best man; the bride's brother, James M. Read, her stepbrother, Reid S. Perry; Jerry Condutti, Eric Hutchings, and Mark MacInture, were groomsmen.

Mrs. Lofton is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and Mr. Lofton graduated from Virginia Military Institute. After honeymooing in the south, the couple will live in Chapel Hill where the groom will attend graduate school at the University of North Carolina.
