The marriage of Eileen Marita Cooke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Francis Cooke of Allenhurst, N.J., and Jean McCadley Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson Swearingen Brown Jr. of Harrod's Creek, Ky., was celebrated last Saturday afternoon at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Monsignor George Murphy, pastor of Holy Trinty Church in New York, officiated at their marriage as he had for the bride's parents. Monsignor Thomas Reardon of Avon, N.J., and Father Willian Carton, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Deal, N.J., joined in the concelebration of the Nuptial Mass. A reception was held at the Waldorf Astoria.
The bride wore a gown of re-embroidered Alenoon lace and English net featuring a long Empire bodice ending in a flared skirts that extended into a church length train. Framing her face was a cathedral length silk illusions and Alenoon lace mantilla.
Her twin sister, Deirdre Elizabeth and her sister, Suzanne Marie were maids of honor and the bridesmaids were Mary Rogers Brown, the bridegroom's sister Suzanne Nash, Margaret Schwers, Katherine McShane, Deborah Brown, cousin of the bride, and Diana Herrera. They were gowned in white Swiss lace over whisper blue with matching picture hats.
The groom's niece and nepew, Sarah Morris Hurt and Charles Allen Kannapell were flower girl and page boy. She wore a long white organza pinafore trimmed with blue Swiss lace flowers and in her hair was a wreath of flowers with blue streamers.
Master Kannapell was dressed in a white linen Eton suit. Serving the groom was his brother, Robinsons Swearingen Brown III as best man assisted by Patrick J. Colliton, Bradley Cost,. James Paradis, Joesph Bradley, Allen Kannapell, Charles Contessa, Gregory M. and Christopher R. Cooke, brothers of the bride.
The bride is an alumna of Marymount Secondary School, Tarrytown N.Y. and Marymount College of Virginia, and has studied sculpture at the Ceramic League of Miami. She bowed with her twin sister, Deirdre, in 1975 at a dinner dance given by her parents at the Deal Golf and County Club, Deal, N.J., and was also a member of the St. Vincent Debuttante in Westchester and the Gothemas in New York City. Her father is an investment manager. She is a granddaughter of Mrs. Thomas R. Brown Jr., of New York and the late Thomas R. Brown Jr., and executive of the U.S. Treasury and State Departments, and redipient of the Intelligence Medal of Honor. Her paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward F Cooke of Richmond Hill, N.Y. Mr. Cooke Sr. was an investment manager.
Mr. Brown, an alumnus of Georgetown Preparatort Schools and Goergetown University, received a master's degree from George Washingtom University. He has entered the firm of Brown, Forman Distillers Corporation, Louisville Ky., of which his father is chairman of the board. He is grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick McCauley of California, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robinson Swearingen Brown of Harrod's Creek.
The couple will live in Scotch Plains, N.K., after their return from St. Thomas.
