By candlelight and to the strains of a string quartet, Margaret Alicia Deane, daughter of General and Mrs. John R. Deane Jr. of McLean, Va, was married on Friday evening, September 16, to William R Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs Ralph Gray of Darnestown, Md. The ceremony and the reception following was held in the ballroom of the Ft. Lesley J. McNair Officers Club here, with Chaplain Herber, H. Snider officiating.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride carried her maternal great-grandmother's ivory-covered prayerbook on which lay white orchids and stephanotis. Her ivory silk satin gown re-embroidered with Alencon lace was fashioned with an empire bodice and chapel length train, complemented by a full length mantilla of French silk illusion and matching lace.
In attendance were Mrs. Carl J. Kreitler Je. as matron of honor, and Elizabeth H. deane, maid of Honor, the bride's two sister, Mrs. John R.Deane III, Betty A. Clayman and Donna L. Jacobi. John K. Maser III was best man assisted by Thad Samuels Abell, the bride's brothers, John R. Deane III and C. Richard Deane, Ronald M. Fisher and Alan J. Richardson.
The bride, a granddaughter of General and Mrs. John R. Deane of San Franciso, Cal. and Mrs. Jack W. Heard of San Antonio, Tex. and Silver Lake, N.H., and the late General Heard, is a graduate of Briarcliff College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a cartographic researcher with the National Geographic Society where Mr. Gray, a graduate of Bucknell University, is a managing editor and writer.
The couple took their honeymoon in Bermuda and in New Hampshire, and will make their home in this city.
