Denise Louise Patton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Patton of San Diego, California, was married last Friday, December 22, in San Simeon, California, to John Augustine Chilton Hearst, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Randolph Hearst Jr. of New York.
The ceremony, performed by a long-time family friend, the Reverend Maurice Chase, a Paulist priest, took place in the front parlor of the old house built at the San Simeon Ranch by the groom's great-grandfather and great-grandmother, U.S. Senator and Mrs. George Hearst.
The high-ceilinged Victorian home glowed with white Christmas poinsettias for the first wedding performed there since it was built in 1870, many years before the Hearst castle was started.
The bridal couple and their families enjoyed luncheon with champagne and dancing immediately after the ceremony.
Devon Patton, sister of the bride was maid of honor and William Randolph Hearst III was the best man for his brother.
Mrs. Hearst is an alumna of The Bishop School of La Jolla and California Polytechnic University. Her father, founder of C.W. Patton & Company, is an acoustical engineer. His family, California pioneer mining engineers, was associated with early California mines, principally in northern California and southern Nevada.
The bridegroom, known as Austin, graduated from the Canterbury School and received his bachelor of science degree from California Polytechnic University. He is an environmental consultant and landscape architect presently preparing for an environmental study for The Hearst Corporation. His father is editor-in-chief of The Hearst Newspapers and chairman of the executive committee of the Hearst Corporation Board of Directors; and his mother, Austine Hearst, was a columnist at the Washington Times Herald for many years. His grandfather, William Randolph Hearst, was founder of the publishing empire.
After the honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Hearst will reside in San Francisco, California.
