The marriage of Barbara Bishop Smith and Thomas Aron Grossman took place July 22 at Holy Face Church, Great Mills, Md. The Rev. Richard J. Smola united in marriage the daughter of Dr. John Eldrid Smith and Florence Bishop Smith of Valley Lee, Md. (formerly of Potomac) to the son of Dr. Arnold Grossman and Hope Aron Grossman of Framingham, Mass. The reception was held at the Placid Harbor Yacht Club.
The bride wore a sleeveless ivory satin chiffon gown with beaded alencon lace, a scoop front and back with overcape, and a cathedral train. Framing her face was a veil attached to a beaded alencon lace headpiece, and she carried a bouquet of ivory stephanotis, roses and baby's breath. Janice Smith Brotherton of Fairfax, the bride's sister, was matron of honor assisted by her other sister, Carol Smith-Breckling of Bangor, Me.
James Luscombe of Chicago was best man and the ushers were Gregory Glass of Baltimore and Gordon Brotherton.
The bride is a 1971 graduate of Winston Churchill High School, here, and in 1974 from Georgetown University. Mr. Grossman is a 1972 graduate of Framingham South High School and in 1977 from Colby College (Me.) The bridal couple, who honeymooned in Surry, Me., are completing PhD programs in sociology at the University of Chicago.
