Col. (USA ret.) and Mrs. Carrol J. Howard of McLean, Va. announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Catherine to Richard Saunders, Capt. USA, son of Col. (USA) and Mrs. Edward Saunders of West Point, N.Y. The ceremony was performed in the Fort McNair Chapel in this city by Father Lewis Mangini of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, on August 4. The reception followed at the Officers' Club.
The bride attended Marymount Junior School, the Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac, and graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Omicron Delta Epsilon. She has a master's in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and will be employed at the J.F. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Fort Bragg, N.C.
An alumnus of schools in Germany and West Point, Capt. Saunders graduated from the U.S. Military Academy where he received the Association of Graduates award for standing second in general merit, the Troy Hutto Memorial Saber, the Herman Beukema award, and also attained membership in the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, Class of 1973. He met his wife when obtaining his master's in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School and has published several articles in military journals. He is presently assigned to the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
The couple will reside in Fayetteville, N.C.
