St. John's Episcopal Church in McLean, Va. was the scene for the marriage of Cornelia Lanier Smith and William Aloysius Glavin Jr. at half after four on Saturday, September 8. The Very Rev. William Myers, rector, and the groom's uncle, the Rev. Edwin Glavin of Amsterdam, N.Y., were the officiating ministers. A garden reception followed at the home of the bride's parents, Capt. (USN ret.) and Mrs. Richard Clina Smith of McLean. Mr. Glavin is the son of Mrs. William Aloysius Glavin of Albany, N.Y. and the late Mr. Glavin.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore her mother's Duchesse satin wedding gown complemented by a pearl necklace belonging to her late grandmother, Mrs. James Orlando Hodgkin Sr. of Warrenton, Va., and a diamond and sapphire brooch given to her by her godmother, the late Mrs. Waverly Witt Barbee, also of Warrenton. Mrs. Paul John Manafort was matron of honor; Jamie Newton Hodgkin, Stephanie Ryan Cate, Mrs. John Richard Fish, Jean Mary Colandrea and Maureen McKenna, the bridesmaids. Mr. Glavin's twin brother, Robert Gordon Glavin, was best man and the ushers were Richard Hodgkin Taylor Smith, brother of the bride, Paul John Manafort, Brian Sean O'Grady, Dr. Rene Perez-Silva, and Charles Edward Bunch.
After a wedding trip to Pompano Beach, Fla., the couple will make their home in Arlington.
