U.S. Rep. and Mrs. James H. Scheuer of New York and Washington, D.C. announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Helen to Peter Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marc Joseph of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. and Saltaire, Fire Island. A June 22 wedding is planned in Hopewell Junction, N.Y.
Miss Schuer, an alumna of the Sidwell Friends School, here, and of Swarthmore College, class of 1975, received an MA in Mediaeval Latin and palaeography from University College, London, and was graduated last May from the columbia University School of Law. She is a law clerk for Federal Judge Inzer B. Wyatt of the Southern District of New York. Her Father is the Representative from the 11th Congressional District (brooklyn-Queens) in New York, and was New York City harmonica champion in 1933. Her mother, an interior design consultant professionally known as Emily Malino, is vice-president and a partner of the architectural firm of Perkins & Will. She is the granddaughter of Leonore R. Malino and the late Jerome E. Malino, a partner in the New York law firm of Gilbert & Gilbert. Her paternal grandparents are Helen R. Scheuer and the late S. H. Scheuer, who was a private investor.
Mr. Joseph is a graduate of The Horace Mann School and of Cornell University. He received him JD in 1977 from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and Articles Editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems. He is an associate with the law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in New York City. His father is a senior partner in the New Jersey law firm of Stein, Joseph & Rosen, and with its affiliate law firm in New York, Stein, Rosen & Ohrenstein. His mother, Judith Joseph, a recent graduate of Fordham Law School, is an associate with the same firms. Mr. Joseph's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Murray Joseph of Tucson, ariz. and Mrs. Jeane Goldstone of North Miami, Fla. and the late Nathan Goldstone of Long Beach, N.Y.
