At the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Vienna, Va., Debra Sue White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. White of Oakton and Louisa, exchanged wedding rings with William Harvey Hayter of Abingdon, Va., son of Mrs. Floyd O. Parris of Glade Spring and the late Wilmer Ward Hayter of Abingdon, Va. The Rev. Benson Bartell conducted the November 17th ceremony with Mrs. Carol Smiley at the organ and Miss Sandy Higinbotham as soloist. A reception at the Marco Polo Restaurant followed.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white silk merocaine knit and re-embroidered lace featuring an empire bodice, a Queen Anne neckline, and long full sleeves ending in a wide cuff of lace. The full A-line skirt fell into a chapel train encircled with matching lace, complemented by a three-tiered fingertip veil of imported illusion attached to a Juliet cap of re-embroidered lace.
The bride's attendants were Karen White, her sister, as maid of honor; Joan Tosti, Phyllis James, Sallie Higinbotham, and Priscilla Tipton, as bridesmaids; and her sister, Vickie White, was flower girl. David Johnson served as best man with David Stover, Curtis Johnson, David and Kenneth White, brothers of the bride, as ushers.
The bride and groom are graduates of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and he a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mrs. Hayter is a graduate assistant at the East Tennessee State University Counseling Center while working on her master's in guidance and counseling. Mr. Hayter is vice-president of The First Russell County Bank and Trust Co. of Lebanon, Va.
After a honeymoon trip to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Abingdon, Va.
