Dr. and Mrs. Edgar Andrew Bering Jr. of "Creek House," Oxford, Md. announce the engagement of their daughter, Dr. Harriet Alexander Bering, to Dr. Edward Lawrence Hoder of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Dr. Bering was Phi Beta Kappa at Harvard and attended Stanford Medical School. She is doing her post-graduate residency at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. and in July will begin a fellowship in hemstology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Her father was Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard for many years. After that, he was special assistant to the Director of the National Institute for Neurological Diseases and Stroke in this city and is now practicing in Easton, Md. Her maternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Winthrop W. Aldrich of New York. Mr. Aldrich was Chairman of the Board of the Chase Bank for many years. He served as Ambassador to the Court of St. James under President Eisenhower. Her great-grandfather was Senator Nelson W. Aldrich of Rhode Island. Her paternal grandparents are Mrs. Ilse Bering of Salt Lake City and the late Edgar A. Bering.

Dr. Hoder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Huder of Pughkeepsie, N.Y., is a neo-natologist. He attended Yale and Stanford Medical School and did post-graduate training at Stanford, Boston Children's, and Yale-New Haven Hospitals. His father is a high school administrator. He is the grandson of Mrs. Anna Hoder of Pawling, N.Y., and the late Joseph Hoder, and of George Wilson of Geneva, N.Y. and the late Harriet Wilson.

An April wedding is planned.
