The Very Rev. and Mrs. Francis B. Sayre announce the engagement of their daughter, Harriet Brownson, to Geoffrey Donald McCord.

The bride's father is the Dean Emeritus of the Washington Cathedral. The groom's mother is Dr. Joan McCord, Professor of Sociology at Drexel University, Philadelphia. His father is Dr. William McCord, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, City University of New York.

Miss Sayre attended the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and was graduated from Concord Academy (mass.). Mr. McCord is a graduate of the Lower Merion (Pa.) High School. They are both graduates of Oberlin College (Ohio) with honors in philosophy.

An August 23rd wedding at Vineyard Haven, Mass. is planned. The couple will reside in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. McCord is a candidate for a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, where he holds the Danforth and Mellon Fellowships. Miss Sayre is education coordinator for the Semple Street Food Cooperative and a member of its Board of Directors.

Miss Sayre is the granddaughter of Mrs. Thomas C. Hart of Sharon, Ct. and the late Admiral Hart, who was United States Senator from Connecticut following his long naval career. Her paternal grandparents are the late Honorable Francis B. Sayre, Assistant Secretary of State in the Roosevelt administration, and Jessie Wilson Sayre, daughter of President Woodrow Wilson. The groom's maternal grandparents are Mrs. Robert Fish of Palo Alto, Cal. and the late Mr. Fish, former vice-president of Lightolier. His paternal grandparents are the late Don Chylo McCord, vice-president of Chase National Bank, and Mrs. McCord.
