To purists, the making of a good curry involves hours in the kitchen. What you wind up with is a most palatable cold remedy that clears your sinus while it tickles your tastebuds.
But if you're in a hurry, you can curry with hamburger. The whole dinner takes about 15 minutes to put together, another half-hour to simmer and you have a meal to enjoy.

MENU (Serves 4) Hamburger Curry -- Condiments White Rice Avocado Salad HAMBURGER CURRY 1 pound ground beef 1 can (16 ounces) tomatoes 1 onion, chopped fine 1 clove garlic, chopped fine 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 teaspoon cumin Salt
Saute ground beef, onion and garlic until meat is browned and onions are soft. Drain off fat. Add tomatoes, curry powder, cumin and a sprinkling of salt. Break up tomatoes, and sinner one-half hour. Serve over rice. AVOCADO SALAD 1 avocado, peeled, pitted and thinly sliced into bite size pieces 1 banana, sliced 1 can (11 ounces) mandarin oranges, drained Mayonnaise or plain yogurt Lettuce
Combine ingredients, and stir together with enough mayonnaise or plain yogurt to make a cohesive salad. Serve on lettuce. GROCERY LIST
1 pound ground beef, 16-ounce can tomatoes, 1 onion, 1 avocado, 1 banana, 11-ounce can mandarin oranges. One or more of the following condiments: coconut, peanuts chutney, bananas, raisins. STAPLES TO HAVE ON HAND
Garlic, curry powder, powdered cumin, mayonnaise or plain yogurt, lettuce, salt.
In a large frying pan, saute ground beef. Peel and chop onion and garlic, add to beef.
Peel avocado, slice into bowl with banana and drained oranges. Stir mayonnaise into salad, chill in refrigerator.
Add canned tomatoes to ground beef with curry, cumin and salt. Break up tomatoes, cover the pan and simmer for one-half hour. Meanwhile, boil water, add rice and cook 15 minutes.
Set the table, and pour the drinks. Arrange condiments on a tray.
Arrange lettuce on salad plates, spoon out salad mixture. Put rice on dinner plates, top with curry and serve.
