It's that time of year again. Shopping lists, relatives, impossible budgets and a shortage of holiday spirit in parking lots and department stores. b

Escape the commercial bombardment of the season and get your jollies at a church, school or community center bazaar. Among the attractions are homemade international foods, functional and fantastical crafts, lots of gift possibilities plus a break from the high prices and nerve-racking canned music of shopping malls.

Many area festivals are major productions with raffles, auctions, fortune telling and carolling to keep browsers busy. And while buying items on the cheap, shoppers can feel they're benefiting good causes. The women of the St. Ignatius Church bazaar in Oxon Hill, for example, netted more than $16,000 last year and have been working on their handmade afgans, wall-hangings, Christmas decorations and canned goods since March.

They are not alone in their endeavors. Herewith, the Fourth Annual Weekend Holiday Bazaar List.
