In Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, January 3, Mary Ellen McGovern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael M. McGovern of Eastchester, N.Y., was married to patrick William McDonough, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. McDonough of Dracut, Mass. The Rev. James English, pastor, performed the ceremony and a reception in the ballroom of Ft. McNair Officers' Club followed.

The bride was escorted by her father. For her Christmastime wedding she wore a candle-light satin appliqued in alencon lace with a cathedral veil of matching lace. Her sister, Joan Marie McGovern, was maid of honor and the groom's best man was Terrence A. McGinnis. Other bridal party members were the groom's sister, Mary Louise McDonough, Terri Joan O'Neil, Dr. wMargaret Shannon, Mrs. Kenneth Burr, Walter G. McDonough, Jr., the groom's brother; Peter Joseph McGovern, the bride's brother; Kevin J. McEvily and Charles Frederick Kaiser, III.

The bride is a graduate of the Ursuline School, New Rochelle, N.Y. and Marymount College of Virginia with a degree in nursing from Georgetown University. She is an obstetrical nurse in Washington, D.C. and also an instructor of the prepared childbirth classes with Parent and Child, Inc.

Mr. McDonough is a lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. and a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He graduated magna cum laude from Boston College where he also received a master's in history and his law degree. He recently obtained a master's in tax law from Georgetown University School of Law.

The couple will live in their new home in Silver Spring, Md.
