Elizabeth Leigh Updike, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Glenn B. Updike, Jr. of Danville, Va., was given in marriage by her parents to Henry Cabell Maddux, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Cabell Maddux, Jr. of McLean, Va., last Saturday, June 6.

The ceremony, and the reception that followed, took place in the formal garden at Dan's Hill, a national historic landmark in Danville, home of the bride's grandfather, Mr. John G. Boatwright. The bride is also the granddaughter of Mr. Glenn B. Updike and the late Mrs. Updike and of the late Mrs. Boatwright and great-granddaughter of the late Senator Carter Glass. Mr. Maddux is the grandson of Mrs. Katherine O. Maddux and the late H. Cabell Maddux and of the late Dr. and Mrs. Richard J. Alfaro; Dr. Alfaro was President of Panama.

Framing the bride's face was her great-grandmother's heirloom lace mantilla which also accented the bishop sleeves on the wedding gown. Her cousin, Mrs. Brock Whisenhunt of Blytheville, Ark. was matron of honor; and the groom's father served as best man.

Mrs. Maddux, a graduate of Mary Baldwin College, is a legislative assistant with the Government Relations office of Certain-Teed Corporation. Mr. Maddux served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1972 and later received a BA from the University of Virginia. He is an investment banker with Alex, Brown & Sons.

The couple will reside in Arlington, Va.
