Christ Child Opportunity Shop: A Catholic organization supporting the Christ Child Institute in Rockville, a facility for autistic and emotionally disturbed children, as well as a Maryland camp for inner-city children.

The Closet, Inc.: Run by volunteers from area churches.

Deborah's Place Thrift Shop: Run by volunteers from several churches. Provides support services for "women in transition" (for example, those who have been ill or lost their jobs).

Family Thrift Shop: A small shop run by the Jewish Council for the Aging.

Florence Crittenden Bazaar: Helps unwed mothers and disturbed young women.

Goodwill Industries: Provides vocational rehabilitation to handicapped men and women through a job-training program and a sheltered workshop. It has some of the largest thrift stores in the area, particularly at the West Virginia Avenue and Duke Street locations.

More locations carry housewares, clothing, furniture. Used cars sold "as is" (they must be in shape to be driven to the store and away again) at the West Virginia Avenue store, which is also more likely to carry other large items such as office equipment.
