Sunday's the day to see how many people harbor an urge to walk across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge's 4.2-mile span. Starting at 9, the original structure of the bridge will be closed to all but foot traffic so you and thousands of others can walk across to Kent Island. No bikes, food, skateboards or pets are going to be allowed on the bridge, and kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. It tends to be quite chilly and windy up on the bridge, so you should plan to dress appropriately. If the weather turns too cold or rainy, the walk will be canceled. Call 301/859-7315 for up-to-date weather and walk information. If you're driving from D.C., there'll be a free shuttle service from the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis and back from the Kent Island shopping center. To park at the stadium, take U.S. 50 and exit at Rowe Boulevard.
If you don't feel like driving to Annapolis, WPGC and the Atlantic Dairy Association will get you there and back in a bus. It's part of their "walk for fitness" over the bridge. Registration deadline for the fitness walk and ride is Friday evening; call 432-1580.
