If you're into racing sailboats and victory has eluded you and your crew for a year or longer, scrape the barnacles off your centerboard because here's another chance to go for the gold. The Sailing Club of Washington is having its annual Also-Ran Regatta on Monday (Labor Day) at the Washington Sailing Marina. There will be one race for the cruising fleet and three races for the daysailer class. Sailors can register at the Washington Sailing Marina or on Monday morning between 8 and 9:30 at the marina; the entry fee is $5. The first race is at 10:40; call 548-0001. And speaking of sailing, they're having skipjack races at Deal Island on Monday and also a fishing and docking contest. The fishing contest starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 3; at 9:10 there's a small-sailboat race; at 9:30 the skipjacks shove off; at 2:30 there's a small-boat docking contest at Wenona Harbor; and at 1:30 there's a swimming race (for people, not boats). The competition is open to everyone -- register that morning at the docks. To get to Deal Island, take U.S. 50 toward Salisbury and exit at Route 13 south to Princess Anne, turn right at the second traffic light (Route 363, Deal Island Road) and follow the road.
