Singing Christmas carols is great but if you've got a superior set of pipes, maybe you should give Handel's Messiah a try. The George Washington University Glee Club will perform a free yuletide concert with Messiah sing-along Friday at 8 p.m. in the Marvin Theater at 800 21st Street NW. If you're taking Metrorail, exit from the Blue or Orange lines at the Foggy Bottom station. 676-6245.

The University of Maryland will be getting into the act, too. The university chorus performs Messiah sing-alongs at 8:15 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Chapel on the College Park campus. Admission to either performance is $5, $3 for those over 60 and under 13. To get there, take Rhode Island Avenue straight to the College Park campus and turn left at the university's south gate. 301/454-4183.

And if you've always wanted to perform at the Kennedy Center, here's your chance. Free tickets to the center's Messiah sing- along on December 23 will be divvied up this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. There's a limit of two tickets per person and you might want to get there early (lines start forming outside, so dress warmly). The U.S Army Brass Quintet, mimes and jugglers will perform in the center's foyer from 9 to 11.
