The National Arboretum is at 3501 New York Avenue NE. There's also an entrance on R Street NE, just off Bladensburg Road. The grounds are open weekends 10 to 5 and weekdays 8 to 5. The Administration Building is open weekdays 8 to 4:30 and will be open weekends 10 to 5 through May 12. When the Administration Building is closed, you can get maps and brochures from a box outside the Information Center, across the street from the Administration Building. The National Bonsai Collection is open daily from 10 to 2:30. Admission to the Arboretum is free.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult; pets must be kept on a leash. Picnicking is allowed only at the picnic grounds near the National Country Garden. Sports and loud playing of radios are prohibited. All plants, fish and wildlife are protected and may not be collected. None of the plants are for sale. Speed limit is 15 miles per hour.

To reach the Arboretum by public transportation, take the Metro to the Stadium Armory station and transfer to bus B-2, B-4 or B-5. Get off at the corner of Bladensburg Road and R Street and walk east on R Street about 300 yards to the gate.
