Two students from Virginia Tech, Todd Jeffries and Bob Seel, won prizes at the Irene Ryan acting competition during the recent American College Theatre Festival. David Studwell of Purdue and Brad Muniz of California State won the top prizes, $2,500 scholarships . . . Juli Cooper, an alumna of NPT who went to New York, takes over the role of the daughter in "Pack of Lies" on Broadway next week. She has been understudying the role played by Tracy Pollan . . .

"Isn't It Romantic?," the Wendy Wasserstein comedy that opens at Arena Stage this week, has a remarkable number of women on its staff. The director is Amy Saltz, the stage manager is Robin Rumpf, the set designer is Patricia Woodbridge, the costumes were designed by Mary Ann Powell and the lighting is by master electrician Nancy Schertler . . .

The Folger's Mikel Lambert has taken off for a rest, missing the last two weeks of "Hamlet" (which closed last night and in which she played Gertrude), and passing up "A Midsummer Night's Dream." She was to have played Titania, which will be done instead by Franchelle Dorn. Veteran John Wylie is off for a New York summer doing Shakespeare in the Park . . .
