Bernice Albertine King, who was only 5 years old when her father, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., was murdered in 1968, is now a Baptist minister, with a doctorate of law and a master of divinity degree from Atlanta's Emory University. She says she wants to start a prison ministry that also would provide inmates with legal counseling.

The only one of the civil rights leader's four children to follow him into the ministry, King told the Associated Press that continuing the sweeping social change begun by her father is not on her agenda. "My father was more concerned with sociology, the sociological reasons for behavior," she said. "I am more interested in the psychological. ... Former Georgia state senator Julian Bond, who admitted fathering the child of a former girlfriend, flight attendant Deborah Kaye Moore, has been ordered by a Fulton County Superior Court jury to pay $2,000 a month in child support. He was also ordered to pay Moore, who lives in Atlanta, $12,500 for past expenses. Moore filed the paternity suit in September against Bond, 50, who she said is the father of her daughter, now 22 months old. Bond, once a major political figure and now a television personality, initially denied the child was his, but on May 19 he admitted he was the father. Reportedly he has never had any contact with the child. Bond was divorced from his wife of 28 years the day before the suit was filed. He is now remarried and lives in the Washington area ...
