The event, emceed by WMAL radio personality Bill Mayhugh, was in Darnell Hall on the Georgetown University campus. The Kennedy children helping were Kathleen, Robert, Doug and Chris ... Peace activist Dick Gregory went to Plymouth Rock, Mass., Thursday, using the holiday as a symbol to begin a fast protesting military action in the Persian Gulf. The former comic said he'll maintain his fast until all U.S. troops are returned home. "Thanksgiving is the day we in America set aside to be thankful for the abundance of our land," he said at a morning prayer vigil. "It is hard to be completely thankful with war in the Persian Gulf casting a shadow across our land" ... In Los Angeles, Thanksgiving came a day early Wednesday when several Hollywood stars -- Ed Asner, Leonard Nimoy, Cesar Romero, Earl Holliman, Lloyd and Jeff Bridges, and Heather Locklear and her husband, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee -- served up more than 5,000 turkey dinners to the homeless in a skid-row mission ... President Bush on his Thanksgiving visit to American troops in Saudi Arabia joked that he has a secret weapon up his sleeve: "We're going to get Roseanne Barr to go to Iraq and sing the national anthem. According to the New York Post, the 29-year-old assistant Manhattan district attorney argued for some 10 minutes before three judges in the state appellate court that a purse-snatcher's conviction should not be revoked. The judges will determine whether his argument was persuasive when they hand down the final verdict in January ...

Two members of the squeaky-clean Menudo singing group were fired yesterday after U.S. Customs agents said a drug-sniffing black Labrador found marijuana hidden in the crotch of their pants during a stopover at Miami International Airport. This is the band that had been active in the "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign. Oscar Lord, the general manager of the popular Puerto Rican group, said Sergio Gonzales, 18, and Ruben Gomez, 16, were immediately fired. "Menudo will continue as always to project a wholesome image for the youth and we hope that Menudo fans throughout the world will see this in a positive light in that drug use is something that must be kept out of their lives," Lord said ...
