LAST WEEKEND, Massanutten ski resort in Harrisonburg, Va., celebrated the completion of its new quad chair and a new intermediate slope called Paradise.

"The construction began in July of '89 and was finished last summer, but with the mild winter we've been trying to cover the lower slopes first," said Paul Volkman, director of marketing.

Paradise is 4,000-feet long, the longest slope at the resort, and has a 900-foot vertical. The chair lift has a capacity of 2,150 people per hour.

Volkman predicts colder weather through the weekend and 'round the clock snowmaking. Both slope and lift should be open this weekend.
