s there ever a lot of money to be had for those Persian Gulf generals who spent all that time before the television cameras. Lt. Gen. Thomas Kelly, who was director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and seen in every living room in America briefing the media, retired March 8 and has already been booked for about 50 speeches over the next couple of months. His speaking agent, the Harry Walker Agency, will not comment on the number of speeches or how much he'll be getting, but informed sources say that in another couple of weeks the firm expects to have the total up to 75. And at $20,000 each, that's a comfortable retirement plan. Now if canny media heroes Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf and Gen. Colin Powell retire and become available on the speaking circuit, there are estimates they could easily bring in $50,000 each time they talk. Don Walker, the president of the Walker agency, did say he believes the interest in the highly recognizable military personalities will extend over a longer period than that of other flashy media celebrities.

Byron said the pants were not too tight and said she and her colleagues would go back to the hotel ...
