Friday night the French Embassy hosts stunning young jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson (202/944-6091). Also Friday, Austin honky-tonk heroes the Derailers come to Paddy Mac's (301/608-3360). At Sting late Friday, area DJ greats Deep Dish hold court, along with renowned turntablists (don't call them scratchers) DJ Infamous and DJ Craze.

On Saturday, swingin' British big band the Jive Aces plays at George Mason University's Johnson Center (703/993-4072, Ext. 5). One of the area's best up-and-coming rock band's, Crenshaw, celebrates its new CD with a show Saturday at the Garage (202/331-7123), with the Blue Dogs. Also Saturday, Citizen Cope shows off new songs during an acoustic set at the Velvet Lounge (202/462-3213).

Sunday, the Women 'N Rock coalition (a non-profit organization that raises money and awareness to fight heart disease in women) hosts a show of woman-fronted rock bands Sunday at Jaxx (703/569-5940) at 5 p.m. with Gadget White, Rachel & Jaqui, Mortal Measure and several others.

Avant jazz cats Latin for Travelers (featuring drummer Bobby Previte) play a show Monday night at Chief Ike's Mambo Room (202/332-2211). Also Monday, local trumpeter Vaughn Nark celebrates his excellent new jazz CD with two shows at Blues Alley (202/337-4141).

Mike Watt still rocks, and the former leader of the Minutemen and fIREHOSE comes to the Black Cat (202-667-7960) on Tuesday, with the Chris Haskett Band and Trainwreck.

Son Reinas is Japan's best all-female salsa band. Probably its only one, but definitely worth seeing Wednesday at Zanzibar (202/554-9100).
