Potter Movie Heats Up
* Perhaps it was young wizards using the "Lumos" charm too much. But the Hogwarts Express, being used to film the latest Harry Potter movie, may have caused a fire in the Scottish countryside over the weekend.
The fire happened where the steam train was being used to film "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." A helicopter dropped water bombs to put out the fire, which burned about 80 acres of land. No one was hurt.
In a related development, Warner Bros., the company that makes the Harry Potter movies, said that Irish actor Michael Gambon will play Albus Dumbledore in the third movie. Richard Harris, who played the head of Hogwarts in the first two movies, died last year.
As Easy as Octopi
* Got a jar that's too hard to open? Instead of pounding it on the counter or running it under hot water, just give it to Frida the octopus.
Frida, a 5-month-old female octopus, opens jars by pressing her body on the lid and grabbing the sides with the suckers on her eight tentacles. She then twists her body to unscrew the lid.
"Depending on how tight the lid is, it takes her . . . 10 seconds to an hour to get it off," said Frank Mueller, head of the aquarium at the Hellabrunn Zoo in Germany where Frida lives.
Trainers at the zoo showed Frida how to unscrew lids, Mueller said.
