Guitars and Their Masters

Dozens of pop and classical musicians, composers and instrument makers celebrate the guitar in concerts, symposiums, master classes and other activities starting Wednesday and continuing through June 9 at the First World Guitar Congress at Towson University, 8000 York Rd., Towson. Some performances are at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. Emilia Segovia, widow of legendary guitarist Andres Segovia, is honorary president. Dick Dale, Jimmy Dale, Les Paul, Tuck & Patti, Paco Pena, Sergio & Odair Assad, Sharon Isbin, Richie Havens, Bob Margolin, Jerry Douglas, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and the Brazilian Guitar Quartet are among the participants. African American Vision

"Celebration and Vision: The Hewitt Collection of African American Art," paintings and other works by Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett and more than a dozen other 20th-century artists, opens Sunday and continues through Aug. 8 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, on Art Museum Drive at North Charles Street in Baltimore. The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 6, Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 to 5. Admission is $7, seniors and college students $5, under 18 free. Call 410-396-7100.

Taking a Spin in Arlington

Professional bicycle racers will whirl around a one-kilometer course on the streets of Arlington Sunday starting at noon in the CSC Invitational, the second stop in the American Criterium Championship series formerly known as the Clarendon Cup. (The new sponsor is Computer Sciences Corp.) The best places to watch are along Wilson Boulevard near the Clarendon Metro station. Admission is free. Call 703-351-7200.
