What do you think of when you think of the legendary King Arthur?

A dashing king on horseback? Sitting with his knights at the Round Table? Slashing at dragons with his mighty sword, Excalibur?

Now what do you think of when you think of King Arthur as a kid?

A new play at Imagination Stage in Bethesda helps provide some images. "Merlin and the Cave of Dreams" tells the story of young Arthur as he discovers that his mother, father and brother are not who they thought they were. His wizard friend Merlin takes him on a journey to the "Otherworld" where he fights dragons and doubts.

In the end, Arthur discovers something that all kids need to find out. As his mother tells him: "Accept who you are, and then become the person you wish to be."

The 90-minute play is for kids ages 7 and older and runs through Aug. 8. Performances are weekdays at 10:30 a.m., Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. and Sundays at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 to $12. The theater is at 4908 Auburn Avenue in Bethesda. Call 301-280-1660 or go to www.imaginationstage.org.
