Track jackets, a transitional garment for autumn, are being "updated" with a fashion lesson from former decades. This season Adidas is reissuing its 1987 Lendl Track Top -- named for tennis player Ivan Lendl -- as a satin jacket with motorcycle collar.
"The '80s strike back," says Todd Richter, a buyer for Guyshop.com, an online retail site that sells -- among other things -- an old school jacket with ribbed waistband and cuffs from 10 Deep. "Track jackets were originally brought into the mainstream by old-school rappers like Run-DMC, LL Cool J and Fab Five Freddy," he says.
They have remained popular in the urban market but have only recently made a resurgence in mainstream fashion, says Richter.
"More comfortable than denim and flashier than a hoody, track jackets are a perfect complement to today's popular vintage-looking tees and jeans," he says. "What's next, Member's Only?"
