Pop singer and reality TV star Jessica Simpson is taking her talents to the big screen. Simpson has been cast as Daisy Duke in the film remake of '70s TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard," which is also set to star Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville as cousins Bo and Luke Duke, respectively . . .
R&B singer Usher picked up four nominations yesterday for the American Music Awards: favorite male artist in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories, and best album in both groups for his chart-topping "Confessions." Rapper-producer Kanye West and rap duo OutKast picked up three nominations each. It was deja vu in some of the other categories, however. The country male artist group, for instance, again includes Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Tim McGraw (last year's winner). The awards will be presented Nov. 14 on ABC . . .
U2 will release its new album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," on Nov. 23. The group was also nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this week, along with Grandmaster Flash, the Pretenders, Wanda Jackson and the O'Jays. This year's inductees will be announced in December, and the ceremony will take place in New York next spring.
