Former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan will be on hand to read, sign copies of, and answer questions about his new book of poetry, "Blinking With Fists," at the Barnes & Noble store in Georgetown at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17. But you don't have to wait that long to pick up your copy -- the book hits stores Friday. Among the poems included therein: "The Song of the Earth," "Poetry of My Heart" and "The Restless World." Corgan is also working on a solo album, due next year . . .

In other publishing news: former Nirvana bass player and current Washington state political activist Krist Novoselic will be doing his own in-store appearance, reading and signing copies of his book, "Of Grunge and Government: Let's Fix This Broken Democracy!" at Politics & Prose on Monday at 7 p.m. The book discusses his days in Nirvana and how he got involved in politics . . .

The rock group Blondie, "American Idol" alumna Kelly Clarkson, R&B group En Vogue and singer Angie Stone are among those scheduled to perform at this year's "WomenRock!" televised concert. The program, which champions the fight against breast cancer, airs Oct. 28 at 11 p.m. on the Lifetime cable channel.
