Kids are in charge! At least on one TV show and movie. . . .

* "The Fairly OddParents: School's Out! The Musical." It's summer vacation and kids rule -- until pixies begin to fulfill their evil 37-year plan to take the fun out of Dimsdale and the fairy world. The one-hour special, Friday at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon, is even better than the usually funny series. Ben Stein provides a nicely boring pixie voice, and Method Man and Redman do a memorable rap.

* "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D." The dream-like Planet Drool has turned into a nightmare. But so does this PG-rated movie. It's more stupid than cool, and before long, just boring. You know, spit-up isn't appealing even the first time it's projected toward 3-D glasses. Opens Friday.

* "Into the West." This six-part TNT series proceeds at a leisurely but enjoyable pace. It's probably best for serious-minded kids over 12 who want a sense of the rough frontier life of the 1800s. Two-hour segments air Fridays at 8 p.m.
