That's One Big Catfish,

But Hold the Cats

* A recent fishing trip netted a new pet for a South Carolina family.

Clarence Reid and two young family members were fishing at Hartwell Lake when they hooked a 50-pound flathead catfish. Instead of cooking the catch for dinner, the family decided to keep the prehistoric-looking fish in a huge decorative pond.

The fish now swims in exotic surroundings that include palm trees, a waterfall and more than 2,100 gallons of water.

Reid's wife, Deborah, said the fish is ugly but it can stay.

For now the fish is eating dog food. Clarence Reid says he hopes the fish will "play nice" with the family's other pets -- dogs, cats and a goat -- that enjoy playing in the sand and plants surrounding the pond.

"I'm afraid if it gets too big what might happen to the cats," Reid joked.

Countdown to Liftoff

* Space shuttle Discovery is set to lift off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 3:51 p.m. today. NASA, the space agency, says the shuttle can only be launched today during a five-minute period, 3:51 to 3:56. The major networks and cable news channels will all be carrying it, so you might want to plan to be near a television.
