Why? Well, because . . .

* The DVD of "Because of Winn-Dixie" hits stores tomorrow. Not only is this a terrific movie, but the commentary by super-sweet AnnaSophia Robb brings about so many smiles. Speaking of smiles, there also is a interesting look at the training of the dogs that play Winn-Dixie. Good dog!

* Also recommended is the DVD of season 1 of "The Muppet Show." Kermit the Frog is much more sophisticated than you remember from "Sesame Street," and the show's gags still seem clever and funny after almost 30 years.

* A new one-hour episode of "My Life as a Teenage Robot" airs Saturday at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon. In this one, Jenny is transported to a planet of robots.

* Bam! Fans of pro football, video-game style, this is the week you've been waiting for: Madden NFL '06 goes on sale tomorrow. (If you can't wait that long, join the fanatics tonight at Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda for the midnight release.) There also will be Madden tournaments later this month.

* Also for gamers: Dragon Ball GT: Transformation for GBA.
