Rapper DMX faces up to a year in jail for violating the terms of a plea deal he struck after crashing his car through an airport parking gate last year. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons) violated the deal when he was charged with two subsequent driving violations -- a 104 mph speeding charge and an accident involving two other vehicles, both while his license was suspended or revoked. The court date is Oct. 11 . . .
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking in Denver on Sunday yet escaped with only minor injuries, police said Monday. The singer, who had just finished a performance when the shooting occurred, was treated at a hospital and released Monday. A police spokesman said the bullet appeared to have slowed down when it went through the vehicle windshield and struck another passenger (who also survived) before hitting Cohn. A suspect has been arrested . . .
OutKast's Big Boi is launching his own record label, Purple Ribbon. The first release will be a compilation by the Purple Ribbon All-Stars on Oct. 4, led by a single featuring Big Boi, Killer Mike, C-Bone and Rock D . . .
