It has been tempting to own two cars just to be able to get to the repair shop to pick up the first one after it has been fixed. But now that is not necessary since Mobile Car Care hit the road. Five vans, each equipped with $1200 worth of equipment to repair American and foreign cars, make house calls (or highway calls, if necessary). They are radio-dispatched, and can do anything from a tune-up to emergency repairs. Although there is a minimum charge of $14.95, their prices are competitive; a tune-up for a six-cylinder car, including air conditioning, points, condenser, electronic diagnosis, timing and carburetor adjustment, costs about $35, and is guaranteed for 600 miles or six months. Their list of clients ranges from Avis to Xerox, and they make regular calls to service office employees in their parking losts, charging no minimum and offering group discounts. At last there is a service for the proverbial little old lady who never drove her car except to get it tuned up and to sell it to the used car dealer.
Mobile Car Care. Open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and until 10 p.m. for emergencies. 560-4447 or 823-2114.
