The Jewish Community Center's new lobby shop, which features imported and locally made ceramics, Boehm commemorative plates and a brand new look, opens today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Zelda Goldberg, coordinator of the new shop, formerly was a buyer with Bloomingdale's. She has stocked her shelves with a potpourri of unusual discoveries, including distinctive wrapping paper, cards from Boston's Pucker-Safrai Gallery, batiks, replicas of Israeli antiques, Jewish miniatures for dollhouses as well as a seelection of candy and toys. The center's traditional Hanukah shop, a source of holiday decorations, gifts and candy, opens this year on Nov. 9 and continues through Dec. 14 (6125 Montrose Rd., Rockville, 881-0100) . . . It's never too early to prepare for the slush, and this year Shoe Stop, a discounter of designer footwear, is trying to make it a bit more affordable. While supplies last, the shop is offering a well known brand of rubber boots for $19 to $22 (their retail price at most stores is about $35 to $40). The styles range from traditional knee-highs to cowboy boots to short versions to wear with pants. They're available in sizes 5 to 10 (10247 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, 530-3400).
