Handicapper's Note: Every year the Director's Guild of America presents its own outstanding director award. The name of the winner is often the same as the winner of the Academy Award for Best Director. This year's nominees are: Taylor Hackford, "An Officer and a Gentleman;" Wolfgang Petersen, "Das Boot;" Steven Spielberg, "E.T.;" Richard Attenborough, "Gandhi," and Sydney Pollack, "Tootsie." The envelope with the winning name will be opened March 12 at the DGA's annual dinner . . .
