Chester County is celebrating its tricentennial all year. But it's having its official, 300th birthday party this weekend in Hibernia Park, with music, displays of arts and crafts, tours, parades, 300 years of fashions from Chester County, hot-air balloon rides and other festivities.

Then, from June 19 through June 26, a festival of the arts at Longwood Gardens will feature music, drama, dance, films and art exhibits. Admission: $4 for adults, $1 for children. For a schedule call 215-431-6365.

To reach Hibernia Park take Rte. 82 north to Rte. 340. Turn left and follow Rte. 340 to Birdell Road. Turn right and follow to the park. Longwood Gardens is located on U.S. Rte. 1, northeast of Kennett Square, Pa.

The stucco guest house at The Coventry Forge Inn is younger than the building housing the restaurant; it wasn't built until 1806. The downstairs sitting rooms look out onto a tiled porch and upstairs are five bedrooms with private baths. The rooms range in price from $30 to $52 and, as is the case with many small inns, they are often booked far in advance for weekends.

For reservations call 215-469-6222. To reach the inn from Washington, take Rte. 95 north to Wilmington. Turn off at Rte. 202 and go north on 202 until it joins 100. Turn left off Rte. 100 onto Rte. 23 and follow the signs to the Coventry Forge Inn.
