GETTING THERE: Several airlines fly from Washington's three airports to Salt Lake City, among them Western, Republic, Continental, United and American.

Western has a flight departing daily at 7:15 a.m. from Washington National. After a stop at Dulles, departing at 7:50 a.m., the flight continues nonstop to Salt Lake City, arriving at 10:36 a.m. (Mountain Time). The lowest Western air fare currently offered is $258 round trip, based on a 30-day advance purchase and departure on Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday. The rest of the week the fare is $298.

GETTING AROUND: It is not necessary -- except for convenience -- to rent a car while staying at the resorts nearest Salt Lake City. Frequent bus service, offered by two bus lines, is available to all the resorts from the airport and downtown Salt Lake City. The Red Horse Express serves the Park City area; adult fare is $9 one way. The Utah Transit Authority serves the other resorts ($6 one way).

There also is frequent shuttle bus service between adjacent resorts (within Park City; between Alta and Snowbird; and between Brighton and Solitude). Additionally, there's a once-a-day skier's shuttle between the Park City resorts and Snowbird/Alta, departing in the morning and returning when the lifts close. Snowbird/Alta and Brighton/Solitude also are linked by bus.

WHERE TO STAY: Accommodations are varied and come in all price ranges. Park City has the greatest number of rooms and condos and several reservation services to help you find a place. Snowbird offers first-class lodging in a self-contained resort. Alta has limited accommodations, ranging from dorm to first-class. Salt Lake City offers hotels and motels from budget to luxury. Check package rates at all the resorts.
