The Emerald Lake Lodge and Conference Centre offers both winter and summer activities, including canoeing, fishing and hiking, and cross-country ski equipment is available for rent. There also are a hot tub and sauna. Heli-hiking, heli-skiing, white-water rafting and dog-sled rides can be arranged.
Room rates range from $120 to $160 per night double in winter and $160 to $225 in summer. (During the low season, which includes November and selected weeks in December, April and May, rates range from $95 to $145.) The lodge also offers packages that include ski passes to Lake Louise, Sunshine or Mount Norquay, at a cost of $228 to $248 per couple for two nights and $714 to $800 per couple for six nights.
GETTING THERE: The lodge is a 2 1/2 drive from Calgary International Airport via the Trans-Canada Highway, or a 1 1/2-hour drive from Camore, the site of the Olympic Nordic events. No cars are permitted on the premises. Guests are brought in by shuttle bus from a parking lot 10 minutes from the lodge.
Rail service is also available from Calgary slaong the same tracks laid by the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1880s; the trip takes 4 1/2 hours. Passengers disembark at Field, seven miles from the lodge. The lodge will provide transportation from the station. The fare is $22 one-way.
