Bargain of the Week

United is offering a summer air fare sale that has been matched by most major airlines. While the basic fares are too high to be considered true bargains, the promotion also offers companion fares at further discounts. For example, a round-trip ticket from Washington to Los Angeles is $398, and the companion ticket is $258. Fares are valid for travel through Sept. 30. Tickets must be purchased by Friday.

Fares, which were researched Thursday, may change without notice, do not apply to all seats on all flights and are subject to restrictions. Most require advance purchase, are available only on midweek departures and require a Saturday night stay. Certain airport taxes and surcharges are not included. Contact airlines or a travel agent for fare details and airports of arrival and departure.
