Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "The Color Purple" is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the writer's award with Warner Home Video's Tuesday release of a newly remastered. special two-disc DVD of the movie that includes four new documentaries.

The 1985 movie, which ignited the careers of Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey, was nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture and Goldberg and Winfrey won their first Academy Award nominations.

It also starred Danny Glover, Margaret Avery, Willard Pugh, Akosua Busia, Dana Ivey and Larry Fishburne.

The musical score was by Quincy Jones who also co-produced. The story follows the life and hard times of a girl in the rural South of the early 1900s, noting her personal triumphs and the power of relationships as well as the cruelty and despair there.

The four documentaries that enhance this DVD presentation are "Conversations with Ancestors: The Color Purple from Book at Screen," "A Collaboration of Spirits: Casting and Acting the Color Purple," "Cultivating a Classic: The Making of the Color Purple" and "The Color Purple: The Musical."

Other DVD perks include behind-the-scenes and cast photo galleries, the theatrical trailer, two teaser trailers, English and French versions as well as subtitles in English and French. The two-disc DVD lists for $27.95.

Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees (Slingshot Entertainment: DVD, $19.99; VHS, $14.99) The film opened last fall at IMAX theaters nationwide, a 43-minute show that spans more than 40 years of Goodall's incredible and selfless work among chimps at Gombe Park on Lake Tanganyka in Africa. The project began about five years ago and was partially funded by the National Science Foundation.

The Hound of the Baskervilles (BBC Video: DVD and VHS, $19.98) a makeover with a new spin on one of most famous mysteries of all time. The cast is headed by Richard Roxburgh as the legendary Sherlock Holmes and Ian Hart as Dr. John Watson.

City by the Sea (due Tuesday from Warner Home Video: DVD, $27.95; VHS, $22.98) Robert De Niro stars in this gripping murder manhunt that co-stars Frances McDormand and James Franco.

Four Tamilee Webb fitness titles (Natural Journeys: DVD, $19.98 to $24.95; VHS, $14.98 each; 800-737-1825) the queen of "Buns of Steel," whose video sales have topped 10 million, has just released Tamilee Webb's "Fit to the Hits: Motown Moves," "Fit to the Hits: Rock Hard Assets," "Tighter Assets Weight Loss" and "Tighter Assets Cardio Blast."
