When Quincy Watson (Jamie Foxx) is dumped by his girlfriend on the night of their engagement party, he authors a how-to book explaining the best way to end a relationship.
His book becomes a bestseller, but when he meets Nicky (Gabrielle Union), he discovers that his instructions are not written in stone and finds himself "Breakin' All the Rules," available this week from Columbia TriStar (DVD $24.96).
The DVD's bonus materials include a blooper reel, commentary from the cast and crew, an interview with Quincy Watson and a restored Three Stooges short film, titled "Hoi Polloi."
Foxx, whose role in the upcoming theatrical film "Ray" has generated Oscar buzz, offers a more conservative comedic character in "Rules" than his fans are probably used to seeing.
Foxx's "deft touch lends the flighty story of mistaken identities and romantic mix-ups among mostly African American characters in Los Angeles the kind of saucy bounce that Cary Grant lent to similar roles six decades ago," wrote critic Stephen Holden of the New York Times.
Morris Chestnut, Bianca Lawson and Peter MacNicol ("Ally McBeal") co-star in the PG-13 film.
