*Okay Foods:

High Vitamin C -- Asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe, grapefuit, greens (mustard, beet, kale, collards), green pepper, oranges, potatoes, spinach, strawberies, tangerines, tomatoes.

High Vitamin A -- Broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, greens, peaches, pumpin, spinach sweet potatoes, winter squash.

*Foods to Avoid:

Almost all fruits and vegetables are very low in fat, except coconut and palm oil, avocadoes and olives. Milk Products

*Okay Foods:

Milk products containing only 0-1 percent milk fat (skim milk, low-fat yogurt).

*Low-fat cheeses, such as dry curd or low fat cottage cheese.

*Foods to Avoid:

Milk products containing more than 1 percent milk fat.

Cream, all kinds, including nondairy cream substitutes.

All cheeses containing more than 2 grams of fat per ounce. Breads, Cereals, Pasta and Starchy Vegetables

*Okay Foods:

Low-fat breads, rolls, crackers and snacks.

*Cereals, rice and pasta.

Starchy vegetables, such as potatoes and corn.

Low-fat soups.

*Foods to Avoid

Products made with egg yolks (croissants, muffins).

High-fat commerical crackers.

Pasta, rice and vegetables prepared with whole eggs, cream or high-fat cheese.

Cream soups. Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Nuts, Dried Beans and Peas, Eggs

*Okay Foods:

Chicken and turkey, without skin.

Lean beef, veal, pork, lamb.

Fish and shellfish.

Meatless or low-meat main dishes.

Egg whites.

*Foods to Avoid:

Prime-grade and other heavily marbled meats.

Goose and domestic duck.

Organ meats. Fats and Oils

*Okay Foods:

Vegetable oils, margarines. Foods to Avoid:

Solid fats and shortenings.

Chocolate, coconut, coconut oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil. Desserts, Beverages & Snacks

*Okay Foods:

Raw vegetables, fresh fruit.

Plain popcorn, pretzels.

Ice milk, sherbet.

*Foods to Avoid:

Deep-fried snack products such as potato chips.

Cream or whole milk.
