VOLUNTEERSMontgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) needs 400 or more volunteer tutors to assist teachers with kindergarten through fifth grade students enrolled in MCPS's Extended Learning Opportunities program. The program takes place four hours in the morning on weekdays from July 6 through July 30, and is designed to improve students' reading and math skills. The minimum requirement for tutors is one four-hour shift at one of 17 participating elementary schools. To register or learn more, call 240-777-2600. PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING/PROGRAM

The American Cancer Society, Greenbelt Cancer Center and Refreshing Spring Church of God are sponsoring a prostate cancer screening and program open to the public. The importance of early detection for African American men -- who have the highest incidence of prostate calendar and the mortality rate, according to the American Cancer Society -- will be discussed.
