Extended Area Outlook: For Monday through Wednesday - Fair Monday followed by partly cloudy skies through Wednesday. Highs should average in 40s, lows near 20. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 43 to 26.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will continue through the southern portions of California and Arizona with snow extending into Utah, northern Arizona and the Rocky Mountains. Rain and snow will also spread into western and central Texas. Snow showers will be scattered over the Great Lakes, Appalachians, upper Ohio Valley and northern New England. Clouds will be increasing elsewhere in the Plains but clear or party cloudy skies will prevail in other areas. Temperatures will be much colder along the middle and south Atlantic Coast and continued cold in most other areas.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 to 10 a.m. period was 10 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Wether Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.5 feet today.
