Extended Area Outlook: For Wednesday through Friday - Outlook calls for chance of snow Wednesday followed by partly cloudy skies through period. Highs should average in 30s, lows in mid teens to near 20. Temperatures should average 10 degrees cooler in mountains. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 43 to 28.

West Virginia: Today - Snow and wind, highs in mid 20s north to near 40 south, lows near zero. Tuesday - Snow ending, highs teens to near 30.

The National Weather Forecast For Today - Rain will be general along the east half of the Gulf of Mexico Coast and through the Atlantic Coast states into Virginia. Snow will extend northward from north portions of east half of the Gulf states through Tennessee and Ohio Valleys, the Appalachians, the Great Lakes, and New England. Snow showers will be scattered over west Montana. Temperatures will be cold to very cold over the nation. Staying well below zero in the north plains through a portion of the upper Mississippi Valley.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 to 10 a.m. period was 22 for the pollutant, particulate matter. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.
